ABOUT US
INTRODUCTION: Ensemble Christo started in Bloomington, IN. in 2011. About 15 Christian music students gathered and performed compositions that are connected to Christianity, and provided a place where the audience can meditate on Christ while watching the performances. Ensemble Christo-Bloomington still stays strong under the direction of composer Kenji Kuriyama.
THEME: The founder of EC, Elliott Bark, moved to Los Angeles and started an LA chapter, Ensemble Christo – Los Angeles. Twenty Christian professional musicians have since volunteered their time and skills to glorify God’s name. ECLA is now established as the ensemble in residence at Biola University, which includes regularly performing at the student composition recitals.
DEVELOPMENT: As the vision statement states, "...reach[es] out to communities in need," ECLA plays outreach concerts at a homeless shelter for Christmas celebration, and goes on summer mission trips to the Dominican Republic to teach a youth orchestra and spread the Gospel.
RECAPITULATION:
“Ensemble Christo seeks to glorify Jesus Christ through musical excellence. By performing great works that tell the Great Story, both in the church and on the performing arts stage, musicians are seizing the threefold opportunity to fully express their gifts with the church, witness to their colleagues, and reach out to communities in need.”
